A pastor from Mozambique, Francisco Barajah, 39, has died after trying to fast for 40 days, just like Jesus Christ of Nazareth did.
The pastor, also the founder of the Santa Trindade Evangelical Church, in Mozambique, died at a hospital in the city of Beira, where he was brought in a terrible condition by his relatives and congregation.
After 25 days without food or water, Francisco had lost weight and could neither walk nor stand.
Mr. Barajah was diagnosed with acute anaemia and failure of his digestive organs.
He was rehydrated with serums and an attempt was made to introduce liquid foods, but it was too late and and he died on Wednesday.
Members of his church confirmed that it was common for the pastor and his followers to fast, but they were not engaging in it for that long.
